Tool box. in days of yore the first task an apprentice shipwright or woodworker would have to perform was to make himself (it usually was a 'him' in those days) a toolbox for his boat building tools.. A router is another useful tool that is not essential but is awfully nice. with the right bit a router can open a daggerboard slot or cut a panel flush to size, flatten a warped board, cut scarf joints, cut mortises and tenons and round edges. specialized boat building tools. i've not included specialized boatbuilding tools here.. I'd like to give my son his first set of woodworking hand tools as a college graduation gift. he'll be doing one of the wooden boat school boatbuilding courses (building the penobscot 13) this summer, so i'd like to him to have an appropriate set of hand tools for the class..
